The BBC let the highly successful Pop Idol show slip through its fingers to end up with bitter rival ITV, it emerged yesterday. The show’s co-creators, Simon Cowell and former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, were hours from sealing a deal with the corporation when ITV came in to sign the show. Pop Idol made stars of William Young and Gareth Gats and attracted 11.8million viewers.
