POP IDOL winner Will Young has quit booze after a series
of punishing drinking sessions.
The young singer has been on the lash more or less constantly since winning the
ITV talent show.
But now 23-year-old Will has decided enough is enough.
In an exclusive interview he told me: "I just can't drink anymore for a
while. I've overdone it. Especially after filming my video in Cuba. I told you
I went on a huge bender there and I've been on a few more since then.
"We were in Dublin last week recording my album and I have to confess I
did it again.
"Everything was fine when we arrived. I went to the studios and met the
producer of one of my new tracks. We were in there from the early hours till
around 8pm. I really fancied a Guinness afterwards so we went to a few bars.
Before I knew it I was in U2's nightclub The Kitchen drinking more booze.
"Everyone kept coming up to me and shaking my hand and buying me drinks.
We danced and partied till very late then went back to the Clarence Hotel and
had a few more. We flew back the next morning and I felt terrible. That's when
I decided no more booze."
It's a shame, because Will certainly has plenty to toast!
This afternoon it will be announced that his debut double A-side
Evergreen/Anything Is Possible will shoot straight in at No1 after selling
around 1.2MILLION copies.
That is more than double the previous record for Hear'Say's Pure And Simple,
which sold 550,000 copies last summer.
Will says of the phenomenal sales: "Never in my wildest dreams did I think
it would sell this many. It's unbelievable.
"The response has been amazing but I'll be celebrating with a nice cup of
tea.
"I've still got a lot of my album to finish and I want to stay focused for
that.I'm writing stuff along with Cathy Dennis and Burt Bacharach.
"I'm still pinching myself that they're going to be collaborating with me.
It's great to be able to do your own stuff but to have talent like that on your
side is a dream come true."
