POP Idol winner WILL YOUNG’s next
single is self-penned – and he is giving away all the profits to charity.
The jazzy ballad Don’t Let Me Down has been chosen as the
theme for this year’s Children In Need.
It is his first original track after cover versions of
Evergreen, Anything Is Possible, Light My Fire and THE BEATLES’ Long And Winding Road, which he
sang as a duet with runner-up GARETH GATES.
The millions the new single will inevitably make will be
given straight to the charity after its release in November.
Will follows in the footsteps of S CLUB 7, who topped the charts with Never
Had A Dream Come True and Have You Ever, MARTINE
McCUTCHEON, DENISE VAN OUTEN and JOHNNY VAUGHAN in raising a fortune for the
charity.
The song will be performed by Will at the Children In Need
telethon on November 15.
He co-wrote the track with songwriters Richard Stannard
and Julian Gallagher — and told his bosses that he was opposed to recording
another cover version.
Will told me: “I want to release my very first original
track at a very special time.
“I have chosen to do this for Children In Need as I know
there is a huge demand for the single, so hopefully I will be able to raise as
much money as possible for such a good cause.
"Since Pop Idol, I have wanted to spend as much time as possible writing
and co-writing with some great singers/songwriters in the studio, rather than
recording new tracks for immediate release.
“Hopefully it will mean that my first album will be as
good as it possibly can be, and will get a great response.
“I know there’s a huge demand from my fans to hear some
original Will songs, which is hugely flattering, and I am as keen to get them
released as you are!
“I just want to make sure that when I do release them, I
am really proud of them.
And a source close to Will added: “He is determined not to
be pigeonholed as a karaoke cover version singer and that is why fans have had
to wait for this song.
“It’s a laid back jazzy ballad and he was adamant that he
wanted the money to go to charity.
“It should raise millions and he wants to give something
back.”
The track will come out just six weeks after Will and
Gareth’s Beatles duet is released.
