Declan Donnelly claims Pop Idol bosses prefer runner-up
Gareth Gates to winner Will Young.
The show's presenter says Gareth's debut single should not
have come out so soon after Will's.
Gareth is almost certain to replace Will at number one in
the UK singles chart on Sunday with his cover of Unchained Melody.
Dec told The
Sun: "It's been tough on Will. He has not got everything he deserved
and they have been unfair on him.
"I shouldn't really be saying this as I worked on the
show but I think it has not been great for him. He was the Pop Idol winner and
they should have held back Gareth's single for a bit. But instead Gareth is
getting all the glory."
Judge and record boss Simon Cowell admitted he wanted
Gareth to win on the show, although show creator Simon Fuller thinks Will will
last longer.
