Pop Idol winner Will Young is set to duet with crooner
Tony Bennett at the Queen's Golden Jubilee concert.
The pair are in talks to appear together on stage in the
grounds of Buckingham Palace at the showpiece concert on June 3.
The show will see a string of famous names celebrating the
royal milestone in front of thousands of fans who have won tickets for the free
show.
Young's first single, the double A-side Evergreen/Anything
Is Possible, shifted 1.1 million copies in a week to become the fastest-selling
debut of all time.
He has previously duetted with Pop Idol runner-up Gareth
Gates on Beatles classic The Long And Winding Road, but not previously with an
established name from the music world.
The two singers have 47 years separating their number one
singles. Bennett hit the UK number one in 1955 with Stranger In Paradise while
Young made it to the top in 2002.
A concert insider said: "The plan is for them to
do a duet, but the song has not yet been decided."
Young has already had a brush with the greats of easy
listening. Burt Bacharach - who has been behind hits like Trans And Boats And
Planes, Say A Little Prayer and Anyone Who Had a Heart - is writing songs for
his first album.
The concert will also feature performances by Sir Paul
McCartney, Beach Boys star Brian Wilson and Sir Elton John.
