Dig, if you will, a picture: American Idol victor Kelly Clarkson releases her first single, which becomes the fastest-selling debut song in American history, and then she decides to announce she's, like, totally gay!

That's exactly what happened in Britain this March with Will Young, reigning champion of Pop Idol, the BBC TV talent-reality show that inspired its American counterpart.

Weeks after releasing his instant number 1 single, "Anything Is Possible/Evergreen" (no, that's not a Streisand cover), which sold over a million copies in just one week, Young had a confession to make: "I Feel it's time to tell my fans I'm gay," he declared to the British press, though he has yet to discuss it with the U.S. media. "It's totally no big deal--just part of who I am," he added. If only all the you-know-whozit pop idols on our side of the Atlantic were so direct.
