Will makes the
New Muaic Rich List 2003!
(Heat Magazine
March 2003)
The past year has seen them rocket from
rock has-beens to superstars.
Now Ozzy and Sharon
Osbourne have confirmed their ascendancy in rock n' roll's league of wealth,
beating Robbie, Elton and Rod Stewart, according to latest research.
The MTV sitcom turned
the former Black Sabbath frontman, his wife and their children Jack and Kelly
into overnight stars, beloved by a generation of viewers.
But not until now has
the full impact of the Osbournes phenomenon on their bank balances been known.
Now they are in third
place in the round-up of British rock pay-packets.
Their £40 million
combined wealth brings them into third place behind Paul McCartney and the
Rolling Stones.
Their earning power
means that they beat Sir Elton John, who comes in just behind at £38 million,
the Beatles estate, coming in at £17 million, and Robbie Williams, who has £12
million.
Sharon Osbourne is known
for her skills as a businesswoman and despite being diagnosed with cancer,
helped negotiate a £19 million VHS/DVD deal for the TV series, along with
sponsorships and a £2 million book deal.
Paul McCartney's status
as Britain's best performing star in the US helped him maintain his position as
the wealthiest rocker.
Royalties from Gareth
Gates's hit Unchained Melody, for which he owns the rights, have also helped
him boost his income.
The Stones benefited
from the success of their greatest hits album Forty Licks which, added to their
existing wealth, brings them in at £75 million.
Sir Elton, languishing
at number four behind the Osbournes, still generates millions in years in
royalties.
A greatest hits album
out last year and single with Blue will have helped keep him in the top 20.
The Who may have
suffered the death of their bass player and their guitarist is fighting child
porn allegations, but royalties still make them millions.
They are at number five
behind Sir Elton with a combined fortune of £22 million.
The estate of The
Beatles is at number 6 with £17 million in the bank.
Despite his £80 million
deal with EMI, Robbie Williams only has £12 million in the bank at the moment,
but at less than 30 he is still a fantastically wealthy man.
Rockers of a certain age
Tom Jones and Rod Stewart have boosted their coffers this year with a hectic
touring schedule.
Tom Jones comes in just
below Robbie Williams at number 8 with a £9 million fortune, while Rod Stewart
is just behind him at number 9, with £6 million in the bank.
There are some surprises
further down the chart, including a new entry for Daniel Bedingfield, who is on
a par with Craig David at number 17 with £2 million apiece.
Meanwhile Will Young and
Gareth Gates have both entered the charts as joint 20th with £1.2 million each
in the bank.
Some of last year's
stars have fallen of the end of the chart, including last year's Brits star
Dido, David Gray, Enya, Sting, Damon Albarn, Jamiroquai, Gabrielle, Atomic
Kitten and Hear'Say.
