Label serves Will fans club snub
30/07/02
RECORD bosses at BMG have dealt WILL YOUNG’s followers yet another insult — by refusing to set up a fan
club for the Pop Idol winner.
The latest twist in the
Garethgate saga was revealed as Will and GARETH
GATES turned up to film a new video together yesterday in
Blackheath, South East London.
Gareth’s fans had been offered a
chance to appear in the promo through his website.
Supporters of the Pop Idol
runner-up can also sign up for a membership card, exclusive CD-Rom photos and a
photo of their hero for £9.99.
Will fans are furious that they
are not being offered the same chance.
One told me: “It seems BMG are
determined to ignore the fact that Will is very popular too.
“We have campaigned for them to
treat Will like the real Pop Idol winner but everything has fallen on deaf
ears.
“There were competitions for
front-row seats at a concert on Gareth’s website and even the chance to be in
the new video. But we did not get offered anything like that.”
Bizarre has led the way with a
string of Garethgate revelations that started when Pop Idol presenter DECLAN DONNELLY said he thought Will
was being treated unfairly.
Fans were later enraged by the
news that Will and Gareth were doing a duet of THE BEATLES' classic The Long And Winding Road — but
with the telly show’s runner-up taking the lead vocals.
Meanwhile, Pop Idol creator SIMON FULLER says he is planning a
worldwide pop talent competition.
The music guru — who managed the
SPICE GIRLS and
created the S CLUB format
— said he is already working on World Idol.
He said: “My intention is that
the whole world will vote.”
