Pop Idol finalists back England with charity World Cup fan flag

Pop Idol stars have given their support to England's efforts in the World Cup this summer.

Winner Will Young and runner-up Gareth Gates signed a flag bearing the cross of St George.

The aim is to get a million signatures on the flag - making it the world's largest fan flag.

It will then be sold for charity.

Will and Gareth were joined by other finalists, including Zoe, Hayley and Korben, for the signing.

England manager Sven Goran Eriksson launched the initiative last week which is backed by the Football Association and England team sponsor the Nationwide Building Society.

Fans can get involved online by registering at www.TheFA.com/flag and leaving a good luck message.

Eriksson said: "This campaign is a magnificent way of symbolising the entire country's support for the national team. We will travel to the World Cup with wonderful support behind us. It will mean a lot to me and all the players."
